Playgrounds for big and little heroes alike

Whether they are climbing, digging or simply romping about, kids are in their element on our playgrounds. The true highlight is Bear Castle playground with its three-headed dragon. On the El Dorado playground at Hacienda Las Casas your little ones can also play on an Amazon steamer or show off their balancing skills at the ape climbing school in Pongoland. Adults can sit back and enjoy the zoo’s food and drink offers at all playgrounds.

In the main season the safari train is popular with younger visitors for a trip around the Kiwara village, while older kids prefer to look for treasure in our gold-panning area at the El Dorado playground.

Experience the zoo through play

Whether it is stroking animal hides, smelling the scents of plants or touching things from the rainforest – at different interactive learning stations both the old and the young can learn a lot about nature and its inhabitants. On the entire zoo route our interactive learning stations provide a wide range of discoveries and fascinating insights.

A boat trip in Gondwanaland

A highlight for both old and young visitors is the boat trip along the jungle river in Gondwanaland. From the jetty the boat enters a mystical cave where you will experience an audio-visual journey through the Earth’s history. Back in the tropical dome the river meanders through the impressive biodiversity of Gondwanaland and in the undergrowth along the riverbanks you can catch a glimpse of the shy residents of the tropics.

Where can you stroke and groom the animals?

There are several places in the zoo where you can stroke our domestic animal breeds.

In the petting kraal of the Kiwara village you will find Damara goats and pot-bellied pigs, at the Hacienda Las Casas guinea pigs live in an enclosure next to the open-air seating area and opposite the flamingo lagoon, rabbits and pygmy goats can be found in the petting area El Ranchito. If it gets too much for the animals, they can retreat indoors.

Outstanding performance!

Zoo Leipzig has been awarded with the official seal "Familienurlaub in Sachsen" (family holidays in Sachsen). This stands for outstanding performance e.g. in terms of recreational facilities for children, playgrounds or children’s meals in the restaurants.
