The differences between the sexes in this species are easy to recognise (sexual dimorphism). While the females are uniformly turquoise with grey feathers, the males have shiny black plumage with bright blue areas. The red eyes are striking in both sexes. They live in pairs or small groups in evergreen rainforests.
