Madagascan ibises are endemic to Madagascar. They are found in forests and plantations up to altitudes of 2,000 m. As ground dwellers they poke around on the ground, foraging for food such as insects, larvae, crustaceans, worms, molluscs, fish and amphibians. Because the crown and the back of the neck bear a crest of long feathers, it is also known as the Madagascar crested ibis or the crested wood ibis. Two to four eggs are incubated for 23 days.
