Red-and-green macaws are very social birds that live in tropical lowland forests. They often live in flocks, especially when foraging. They mostly feed on nuts and fruit. Pairs are monogamous. They lay their two to three eggs in tree hollows as well as in the cavities of sandstone rocks and brood for around 28 days. The species is known for its loud calls and its ability to imitate human voices and other sounds.
