Did you know?
Arapaimas are among the world’s largest sweet water predatory fish. Because of the red edges around their fins and their red flesh they are also known as ‘pirarucu’ (red fish). They are much sought after for their flesh, which is rich in fat, and this is why this South American fish has also been introduced into Thailand’s waters. Arapaimas use their bony, toothed tongue for chewing. The tongue is so rough and strong that among other purposes it is also turned into files.
