Did you know?

Studies in recent years have revealed that the two previously known crocodile newt species were actually many different ones. The Ziegler’s crocodile newt was only scientifically described in 2013. It is named after the curator of the aquarium of Cologne Zoo, Prof Dr Thomas Ziegler, who has made significant contributions to the research and conservation of Vietnamese amphibians and reptiles for decades.
The Ziegler’s crocodile newt only has a very small distribution area. The greatest threat to these animals is the destruction of their habitat, but also the harvesting for traditional medicine.
