Sun parakeets live in subtropical forests and savannahs up to 1,400 m above sea level. They feed on fruit, nuts, seeds and flowers. The clutch consists of two to four eggs, with brooding for approx. 23 days. They nest in tree hollows and the stumps of palms. Presum- ably due to the market for caged birds, the sun parakeet is already extinct in large parts of its current distribution range.
