With a max. length of 32 cm these ducks rank among the smallest wildfowl in the world. They live along standing or slow-flowing water bodies but are not loyal to a specific location i.e. they will change locations as a result of drought. Their diet consists of seeds, small fish, invertebrates and insects. These ducks nest as pairs in cavities that can be up to 10 m off the ground.
