Did you know?

When foraging for nuts and seeds these diurnal squirrels play a role in seed dispersal. For example, acorns and walnuts make up part of their diet. These nuts are collected in their cheek pouches and taken to caches. They regularly check and maintain these caches to ensure that their food reserves do not become mouldy, by removing any sprouts or spores.
