Lesser Brazilian teals inhabit smaller lakes in densely-forested areas. These agile fliers live and breed in pairs. They feed on grasses, seeds, fruits, roots and invertebrates. They build their nests out of plant material in dense vegetation on the edge of lakes, on small reed-bed islands or in tree hollows. Females brood 6–8 eggs for approx. 25 days. The males also help to rear the chicks.
