The blue-throated macaw is endemic to Bolivia, which means that this species only lives there in the wild. The population is estimat- ed at just over 100 individuals. Its habitat consists of swamp and gallery forests in lowland areas. It mainly feeds on palm nuts. However, other fruits, seeds and berries are also part of its diet. The clutch consists of one to three eggs, which are incubated for 26 –28 days.
