The ruddy-headed goose exhibits different seasonal migration patterns depending on the population. A largely resident population lives on the Falkland Islands, which does not regularly migrate between nesting and wintering grounds. The mainland population, by contrast, migrates seasonally between the nesting grounds in Tierra del Fuego and the grasslands of the Province of Buenos Aires, further north, during the warmer winter months there.
