These birds that can grow up to 27 cm are found in Africa, where their habitats include subtropical moist shrublands and savannah but also plantations and even gardens. They predominantly feed on fruits and insects. Their nests (usually containing two eggs) are made in trees stumps (or similar structures) one to two
meters off the ground. The male and female can be differentiated by the male’s more slender body and shorter tail.
