Female rhesus monkeys mate with several males to conceal the paternity. Consequently, the males provide for all young macaques, as these could be their own offspring. This reproduction strategy creates a competition with sperm among the males, which is reflected by their very large testicles.

Gestation period: 146–179 days, usually one offspring; suckling period: 7–10 months; sexual maturity
at 2.5–4.5 years; maximum age: over 31 years
