Did you know?

These birds live in savannah, cultivated landscapes and urban areas in flocks of hundreds. They feed on seeds, nectar and insects. The males build very intricate oval nests with a tunnel-like entrance by weaving together grasses. In the nest-building season males are fed by the females. In the breeding season the males
turn a red colour, while the females remain a plain brown colour. They lay 2–4 eggs with brooding lasting 11–14 days.
